Coláiste Éamann Rís Senior Hurling team took on Wexford C.B.S. in the Leinster Senior Hurling Semi Final on Monday 15th January. Being without several panellists from our previous match due to illness it seemed as though we would be facing an up- hill battle. The players who travelled to Wexford did not allow this affect their attitude and really showed tremendous effort, attitude and skill. Playing against the wind the Callan boys dug in and battled hard. At half time we were ten points down having played against a gale force wind. The Callan boys showed great determination and pride in the jersey in the second half and clawed back a ten point deficit to take the lead. Deep into injury time, the referee awarded Wexford C.B.S a free which resulted in a goal and a lead for Wexford of two points. Callan refused to give up and got the score difference back to a single point. Unfortunately, the ref blew his whistle and our season was finished.
Great credit must go to these players for their attitude shown in games all year. They had a real honesty and work ethic that brought them to the brink of a Leinster Final. The team management, Mr. P.J. Delaney and Mr. Canice Hickey, praised the group of players who took part in this game as being very genuine players who could not have given more on the day.
Coláiste Éamnn Rís acknowledges the 6th year students on this panel who have represented the school for the last 5/ 6 years in Gaelic games and wish them all the best in their future sporting careers.
