Junior cycle science is a very diverse course in which students study 4 different strands of science. They learn about topics relating to biology, chemistry, physics as well as earth and space. The students gain a wide range of skills which will equip them well for many subjects such as predicting, questioning, experimenting and reaching factual based conclusions.
Course Outline:
Students complete two classroom based assessments during the 3 years. One of these takes place in 2nd year and is experiment based investigating topics such as food, plant growth, forces and chemical reactions. While CBA 2 in 3rd year is worth 10% to their overall grade and is research based on topics such as health or the environment. The final exam sat in June of 3rd year is common level and is worth 90% to the students overall grade.
